Mediatrix Development Foundation organized a school-based activity geared towards eliminating Gender-Based Violence in the society on the 15th December, 2021 at WAPI Secondary School Calabar, Cross River State.
This event brought together 8 active members schools of the Mediatrix Development Foundation health clubs. At the event, Mediatrix Development Foundation provided topics including- education on the causes, detection and prevention of HUMAN PAPILLOMA VIRUS (HPV) which is the most common sexually transmitted disease from the age of 13 years and Sexual and Gender Based Violence. There were also presentations on personal hygiene, cleanliness and maintaining personal body wellness as students.
A panel session consisting of representatives from each school , was held to discuss the prevention of School Related Gender-Based Violence (SGBV). The panelists shared their personal experiences, their perspectives on the causes of GBV and what the society should do to curb sexual gender based violence
Various participants applauded Mediatrix Development Foundation for the sensitization and awareness programs in the society and for creating Mediatrix health clubs in secondary schools in Cross River State.
The President, Dr. Mrs. Linda Ayade gave her closing remark by answering their personal questions and encouraging them to speak up on any sexual gender based violence on them by their peers or anyone else, she also urged them to not turn a blind eye when they perceive that anyone is sexually abused and that is why they are Ambassadors.
After the event, sanitary pads were distributed to all female students present at the event while academic gifts and Christmas hampers were also given to students and teachers respectfully.
