Statement on World Refugee Day ( June 20th 2023 )

On this World Refugee Day, we express our unwavering support and solidarity with the millions of individuals who have been compelled to leave their homes due to conflict, persecution, and violence. It is with great honor that we join hands to amplify the voices of Persons of Concern, with a particular emphasis on the Cameroonian refugees who have sought refuge and found a temporary home within the Cross River State community.

Over the years, our organization, the Mediatrix Development Foundation, has diligently worked with this resilient group of people, and our commitment remains steadfast. We deeply appreciate the resilience, strength, and bravery exhibited by these individuals as they navigate the challenges of displacement and reconstruct their lives in unfamiliar surroundings. Their stories serve as a constant inspiration, reminding us of the indomitable human spirit and the unwavering determination to forge a brighter future for themselves and their loved ones.

At #MDF, our primary objective is to ensure the well-being and protection of all Persons of Concern residing within our communities. We acknowledge and embrace the fact that each person possesses unique experiences, needs, and aspirations. Through collaborative efforts with local partners, government agencies, and humanitarian organizations, we strive to provide essential support and services that facilitate their integration and empowerment.

Today, as we commemorate World Refugee Day, let us recommit ourselves to fostering inclusion, understanding, and empathy. We must celebrate diversity and reject all forms of discrimination, recognizing that our communities are significantly enriched by the presence and contributions of refugees. We urge individuals, organizations, and governments to join forces and work collectively towards establishing an environment of acceptance, respect, and equal opportunities for all.

To the Cameroonian refugees and all Persons of Concern, please know that you are not alone. We will continue to stand firmly by your side, advocating for your rights, supporting your dreams, and assisting you on your journey toward a brighter future. Together, we have the power to construct a more inclusive and compassionate society where everyone can flourish and find solace.

On this World Refugee Day, let us reaffirm our unwavering commitment to empathy, compassion, and justice. Let us extend our hands and hearts to those who have sought refuge among us. Together, let us strive for a world where the rights and dignity of every individual, irrespective of their background or circumstances, are upheld and respected.

Lastly, we express our deep gratitude to the UNHCR for their unparalleled efforts in providing relief and support to forcibly displaced individuals worldwide. We say THANK YOU for the tremendous work you do!
